WHO ARE WE?

We are people like you who want to protect the irreplaceable natural treasures  we love. Together with our neighbors, we protect the distinct character of our coastal communities and inspire a commitment to Plum Island.

Today, the Plum Island we care about is eroding fast, and the natural forces causing erosion, are moving faster, as we saw from the Patriots Day storm.  The lack of federal effort to maintain our jetty system and routine dredging has increased the erosion along Plum Island Beach.

Our mission is not only to nourish the beach, but also protect the tax base, insure the integrity of the sewer and water system and maintain uninterrupted access to Northern Blvd.

The Plum Island Foundation was formed in 2008 and is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All contributions, grants and bequests to the Plum Island Foundation are tax deductible.

State and federal officials toured some of the erosion on Plum Island yesterday with members of the Plum Island Foundation. At the beach center, where recent erosion is most visible, are, from left, Marc Sarkady, foundation president, John Kennelly of the Army Corps of Engineers, state Rep. Mike Costello and state Sen. Stephen Baddour.
